SERP – Search Engine Results Page

There are basically 4 types of components in the SERP, which are

  • The search query contained within a query box – this is the word, or set of words that the user is searching for
  • The organic results – Organic SERP listings are the natural listings generated by search engines based on a series of metrics that determines their relevance to the searched term. Getting your page listed here, on page one of the SERP is the what SEO is all about
  • Paid Results – every search engine with market share accepts paid listing, also known as Pay Per Clicks (PPC). These Paid results are bought by bidding on Keywords (e.g AdWords)
  • Universal Results – in addition to organic results (e.g., image results, new results, featured snippets)
  • Knowledge Graph – Definite information presented in an info box to the right of the search results

A Google SERP Page can also contain SERP Features such as Rich Results (previously described as Featured Snippet) To get a rich result, the page must contain structured data markup
