The Ultimate Secret Gift For Children ~ The Gift No-one Knows You’re Giving
Christmas is a magical time of the year, but sadly the nasty website goblins had taken over. At the start of 2019, the website was down, having barely survived the previous Christmas. We connected with “Elfie” through a mutual acquaintance and rolled up our sleeves to unravel a challenging combination of inadequate hosting, vastly over complex code base with multiple WordPress plugins used to plug the gaps. The extra dimension to this WordPress site was that is was also used to generate the magical products via a pdf generator hooked to Woocommerce ecommerce store
Initially review showed multiple issues, but working within a tight budget, we defined the issues, replaced plugins with more simple custom code, upgraded the hosting and stabilized where we could as a temporary measure to keep the store operating and be ready for Christmas 2019. Christmas 2019 was a success. Sales doubled, allowing scope in the budget to solve the problems that had been previously found, rather than the patch and maintain process we had been restricted to.
Actions taken
- Created a custom PDF generator connected to Woocommerce Product Customisations allowing for the generation of personalized PDF templates, with auto send to the fulfilment house (The North Pole (obviously!) )
- Rebuilt the WordPress theme as a custom Genesis Child Theme (using the look and feel of the existing site)
- Reduced the over-reliance on plugins for functionality
- Improved Page load speed
- Supported and maintained this new lighter code base (Ongoing)
- Advised on SEO content improvements to target keywords not currently being ranked for
The result – Christmas 2020 has been a big success with a huge increase in traffic and sales. And more importantly – Elfie is able to spend less time fixing problems, and more time creating beautiful new content
