Project Overview

Client: Gergo Koroknay, Spaced Out Films

Spaced Out Films required a complete digital transformation of their portfolio website, which was hosted on a rigid Firebase platform. The goal was to migrate the site to a content management system (CMS)—specifically WordPress—to empower the videographer to easily and continuously update their work, all while implementing a modern, clean dark theme that retained the brand’s iconic starfield background.

The Challenge: Static Frustration

The existing website, while functional, presented significant barriers to content management for a busy videographer.

  • Content Rigidity: Being built on Firebase, updating the video portfolio required direct code edits, making frequent content additions cumbersome and time-consuming.
  • Outdated Aesthetics: The existing design needed a modern overhaul to better showcase the high-quality videography work.
  • Brand Requirement: A critical challenge was preserving the visually unique, twinkling star animation background, a core element of the “Spaced Out Films” brand identity, while updating the rest of the site’s layout and functionality.
  • Hosting Transition: The entire architecture needed to be migrated from Firebase to a self-hosted WordPress environment without losing the existing domain name or SEO value.

The Solution: Modern Functionality Meets Stellar Design

Nustart Solutions proposed a comprehensive solution focused on ease-of-use and visual impact: a full conversion to WordPress.

Key Objectives & Implementation:

  1. WordPress Conversion: Migrated the domain and content structure to a high-performance WordPress hosting environment. This fulfilled the client’s critical need for a user-friendly CMS.
  2. Custom Post Format for Video: To ensure effortless content updating, a custom post format was developed. This structure allows the client to simply input a YouTube link and video details, automatically handling the video embed, thumbnail generation, and summary display.
  3. Aesthetic Overhaul: Implemented a modern, clean, and dark-themed design. The visual experience was anchored by the Oswald font for a strong, cinematic title presence.
  4. Star Background Retention: The specific twinkling star animation was successfully isolated and re-implemented using modern CSS and JavaScript techniques, ensuring it functioned flawlessly within the new WordPress theme architecture.
  5. Structured Portfolio: The extensive video content was organized into clear, navigable categories to enhance visitor experience:
    • Music Videos
    • Real Estate
    • Live Events
    • Documentary & Personal
    • Reels
  6. Homepage Focus: A prominent hero video section was included on the homepage, allowing Spaced Out Films to immediately feature their best work alongside a concise, two-sentence introductory summary.

The Result: Empowered Content Management

The final product is a dynamic, visually striking portfolio that seamlessly combines the client’s brand identity with professional functionality.

The primary measure of success was the client’s ability to manage their ever-growing portfolio:

The conversion delivered a platform that is not only visually superior but fundamentally easier to manage, allowing Spaced Out Films to focus on creating content rather than coding their website. The new WordPress setup provides the flexibility and scalability required for a continually evolving videography business, while the dedicated custom post types ensure a streamlined, professional workflow for video publishing.
